Erosion & Abrasion

Fan blade and deflector erosion protection

Particle-laden gas streams erode fan blade leading edges, tips, and deflectors, dropping airflow and unbalancing the rotor over a single campaign.

The problem

What is failing

Particle-laden gas streams cut into fan blade leading edges, tips, and deflectors over a single campaign. The eroded profile drops airflow and shifts mass on the rotor, driving vibration that shortens bearing and shaft life. An unbalanced ID fan can take the whole unit offline.

Our method

How AAS does it

AAS rebuilds the eroded edges cold with a metal-repair composite, then overcoats them with an erosion-resistant ceramic layer to restore the aerodynamic profile, in the field or in our shop. The Belzona 1000 series rebuilds the geometry without arc-weld heat into the thin blade root. No hot work, so there is no risk of distorting a slender blade.

Typically applied with Belzona 1111, Belzona 1321, matched to the service conditions.

The result

The fan returns to service with restored blade geometry and a wear-resistant face, recovering airflow and running balanced through the next campaign.

How AAS delivers it

AAS performs Fan blade and deflector erosion protection work for Power Generation, Manufacturing, and Steel operations across Baton Rouge and Louisiana, cold-applied and in place wherever possible, on your turnaround schedule. Crews are factory-trained Belzona applicators, the repair system is matched to the service conditions it will see, and urgent failures are covered by 24-hour on-call response. The result is a permanent, engineered repair that returns the asset to service without the cost or downtime of full replacement.
